Kirtan: The Heart Practice of Sacred Chant

Join us for an evening of sacred sound and celebration. Release stress, renew energy, and open your heart as you chant ancient Sanskrit mantras in the call and response style of Kirtan.

Kirtan is a very simple & powerful way to meditate. The performer sings a mantra and the audience answers back. It’s effortless & joyful; the music does the work for you as you flow with the melody & rhythm.

Kirtan is the main practice of Bhakti Yoga, known as the yoga of love, where the heart is the doorway to awakening and reconnecting to the divine that resides within all of us.

Through repetition of sacred sounds we calm the mind and come into a state of yoga (union) or bliss.

The mantras are sacred sound formulas that have a specific energies:

Life is a celebration! What better way to celebrate than music? Kirtan is an ancient and joyful practice of simply coming together and singing. Although this idea exists in all cultures, Kirtan or “Satsang” as its also called, consists of sounds, or mantras, strung together to have an uplifting effect on the nervous system. Did you know that each sound vibrates in different parts of the body?

The word Satsang means “company of the truth.” When we sing and surround ourselves with positive company, we are able to let go, dissolve negative emotions and see things as they really are. A Kirtan session is usually call and response, so everyone can participate and benefit, even non-singers!

Our kirtan nights are about bringing community together to sing and share the love and peace that comes through chanting and singing mantras.

Blissful chants, ancient raga and Indian rhythms are some things you’ll experience at Mantra Tribe, then we’ll add some meditative sound and deep silence and your heart and mind will be peacefully happy.

Kirtan is the yoga of sound. A joyous group meditation. It’s like a singalong, where you are part of the performance and everyone participates by chanting and singing mantras in call and response style. The rich history of chanting comes from India and has been practiced for thousands of years to bring people together to unite and celebrate life! Exotic instruments, beautiful voices and uplifting rhythms will inspire you to sing and dance your heart out and experience a feeling of oneness and harmony with each other.

Heart-Centered

We believe the best teachers teach from the heart, and we enthusiastically share yoga’s heart-opening practices including singing, creative movement, art, poetry, loving-kindness meditations and more. We invite students to tap into the power of their hearts just as much as their bodies.

Kirtan is the calling, the crying, the reaching across infinite space - digging into the heart’s deepest well to touch and be touched by Divine Presence.
